Free Armenia is a small farming community in the Armenian Caucasus, near the Valley of Death, whose freedom is the only detected change in the timeline.

Description

A meadow with some pines, flanked by heights, has a main tree at its center. A fence and “a series of driven-in channels” irrigate the land. The main building is “a joint dwelling with joined roofs”, topped by “a kind of dome”. It is rustic, with “a certain comfort”: bicycles, carts, perhaps a telephone. The pomegranate is associated with the place, though not confirmed to grow there.

Its 1870 record shows a single small village, a fertile enclave beside a barren land.

The anomaly

Checking the main timeline for changes gave one answer: «Hay una sola cosa: Armenia es libre.» (“There is only one thing: Armenia is free.“) In the current state of the world Armenia is not free. It is a political anomaly “that should not be able to exist”, a free realm amid imperialist pressures. Kumal and its allies uphold the motto “Free Armenia resists”.

Government

Its government is the United Mamarrachense Community of Free Armenia, named after its founding matriarch. It is the site of the foundations of Mama Racha, “the heart and perhaps the launching kick” of her work, home of the goodness and justice she embodies. Its people live under one common roof.

Rite

A farewell rite is recorded: they take leave “a year and a day later”. What or who is bidden farewell is not stated.

Open questions

  • Whether “Free” is part of the name or a description.
  • The spelling “Mamarrachense” is doubtful; that the Caucasus matriarch is Mama Racha is likely but unconfirmed.
  • From whom Armenia is free, and why it “should not be able to exist”.
  • Why it was sited there; its distance from the Valley of Death, population and crops.
