History
Of the knights who entered the arena that day, half did not come out; Prudence was one of those saved. He survived the blackness of the death ray and then the purge that nearly split the order in two. He remained with what the order lacked: two years of having lived among those who now threaten it.
Analysis of the Varumani
When the knights needed to understand what had happened in Ritornello, they called him. He answered as an ambassador, quoting Shakespeare, without exaggerating either praise or condemnation:
- They are valiant warriors who seek personal confrontation, but have no problem exterminating whoever they consider inferior.
- At the Cabin of Blood they commemorate each year the time they were nearly annihilated by the empire’s legions. Already two centuries ago they had artillery, and with it they devastated the entire legion. “I think they may have used a bomb if they feel very threatened; I have no doubt they would sweep away everything using their maximum technology.”
- They have four clans, draconian laws with exiles, and a tradition of record: scrolls and crystals in which they note each one’s deeds. If they were responsible, they wrote it down.
He agreed to return to the court to find out.
