Description
He belongs to the surface of the affair, the part still settled with a short gun and a black car waiting with the engine running. His hand is fast and his aim steady; he draws before the other man finishes thinking the gesture. Wherever Moretti goes, Max walks a step behind, reading the exits.
The lighthouse shootout
When the meeting turns bad and shooting starts, Max steps in to cover Moretti. A rifle bullet from the FN FAL that Antonio calls “Natalya” (its owner’s mind already broken by what sleeps beneath the islands) hits him squarely and leaves him badly wounded. He does not stay to finish the fight: he stumbles down the lighthouse’s spiral staircase.
Flight
He leaves the lighthouse as best he can and gets into the black car waiting outside, bleeding, and disappears from the scene and the islands.
Open questions
- Whether he survived the wound or reappeared beside Moretti is not recorded.
