Gemma Alighieri is the lady of the Alighieri house in the Florenzen chronicle (1300), the house of Dante.
The chronicle reaches her by an everyday route: asking after the house, the party is directed to Olivia, the laundress on the corner, who washes the Alighieri’s clothes. At nightfall Fernandín reports the alarming news: a monk in a black habit has entered the house as the lady’s new confessor, just after the lord Alighieri left.
In her illustration she sits at a table with her papers, while the faceless monk in the black habit stands behind her.
