Cambridge is a university city of high bell towers in Albion in the Gloriana chronicle, in 1660. It is expensive for students, comfortable only for masters and graduates, and split by the old tension between town and gown.

The monastery below

  • On the journey the travelers stop at an abandoned monastery near the city. The sculpture there indicated going up, but they found a way down; the lower they went, the more ghosts and danger grew.
  • Below lay the bodies of men who had resisted the usurpation, dead in horrible ways. Then came ghouls and skeletal warriors in a side passage, with floors sinking under their steps.
  • In a catacomb stood the most dangerous being: the ghost of the abbot, Dr. Butts (also recorded as “Dr. Botis”), manifested on a rainy day and able to age or kill with a touch. The travelers compel him.
  • Other details: the village after the plague, the treasures extracted, the loss of the companion Aberzona, and a girl they bought for three pounds.

Lord Rochester is the noble of the monastery area.
