The Annihilation Ball (also the Black Sphere, or Marta’s Ball) is an artifact: a perfectly black sphere, darker than the shadow around it.
It rests on a green velvet cushion on a carved stone pedestal inside a ruined Gothic chapel with broken windows, fallen masonry and an altar at the back with a beheaded saint. The air around it shows fine cracks: the lines of space are interrupted centimeters from its surface.
